A natural-born talent, Jean Dominique Volcy began drawing and painting in watercolor as a child, nurturing his gift with patience and discipline into a distinguished career in oil and acrylic. He furthered his craft at the Bob Blackburn Printmaking Workshop under the mentorship of master artist Otto Neals. For over forty years, Volcy's work has been exhibited throughout the New York metropolitan area and abroad — including the Brooklyn Museum, the Bronx Museum, Wilmer Jennings Gallery at Kenkeleba, and La Maison des Arts in Montreal — and featured in numerous books and catalogues on Haitian and African American art. In 2000, he was commissioned to create a painting representing the Haitian community of New York for the U.S. Census. "My work echoes the murmur, the clamor, and joy in our daily life," Volcy says. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His work will be featured this fall in Dorsey's Fine Art Gallery's upcoming group exhibition.
